Door staff urged to top up knowledge at Bristol college

CITY of Bristol College is to offer a top-up course for door supervisors holding an out-of-date qualification.

Students who earned the college's door supervisor qualification prior to June 2010 are required to undertake a short 'up-skill' course to renew their licence.

The Door Supervisor Up-Skill Course, which is now required by the Security Industry Authority, comprises a one-day physical intervention course and some home study, focusing on providing evidence of industry knowledge.

Kevin Jones, team leader for security qualifications at the college, said: "This new course is aimed at anyone who qualified prior to June 2010 and is currently working as a door supervisor, intends to continue working in the industry and will be renewing their licence after February 13.

One door supervisor, who has already successfully trained with City of Bristol College, is 42-year-old Joanne Thorne from Kingswood.

Ms Thorne said: "There is a real shortage of women in the security industry and I like the fact that there are promotional prospects even for someone of my age and experience."
