Neighbourhood policing teams were on patrol across South Gloucestershire delivering crime prevention advice to help people keep their property safe. Officers delivered leaflets in Yate and Winterbourne asking residents not to give thieves a "window of opportunity" by leaving doors and windows open or insecure.
Yate PC Angharad Baynham said: "Most burglaries do happen that one time you leave the window open or forget to lock the door. Always lock up and set the alarm, especially once it gets dark. We know the sort of things thieves look for when they're choosing somewhere to burgle, and we delivered information and advice to those we thought were at risk."
In Cadbury Heath, Kingswood and Staple Hill, officers focused on thefts from sheds, garages and cars. Officers were also asking people to fit low-cost alarms to sheds and garages to alert them to anyone trying to break in.
