Don't miss Privates on Parade
Bristol's excellent non-pro troupe Ship and Castle stage Peter Nichols' comedy play with songs, which chronicles the hilarious and occasionally dramatic exploits of a British Military Concert Party in late 1940s Malaya.
Nichols, born and raised in Bristol and educated at Bristol Grammar School and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, drew on his own experiences in the real-life Combined Services Entertainment Unit for this merry farce. The Song and Dance Unit, South East Asia (SADUSEA) are under the nominal command of the rigid Major Giles Flack, and – much to the latter's discomfort – most of them seem to enjoy dressing up in drag.
