Don't miss Bristol Choral Society: Messiah
Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without Bristol Choral Society's Messiah, a venerable institution that, incredibly, notches up its 120th anniversary this year.
Back in 1892 – when more than 600 musicians mustered on the Colston Hall stage – the choir wouldn't have dreamed of singing from memory, but that's not the only innovation of recent years.

Once again, there's a family friendly, bite-sized Mini Messiah in the afternoon, guaranteed to grab young ears and give them an exhilarating hour-long Handelian workout.
Come the evening though, the full Monty beckons, and with soloists Mary Nelson, James Neville, Daniel Auchincloss and Joshua Copeland, not forgetting the period instruments of Music for Awhile. Conductor Adrian Partington lights 120th birthday candles for a performance that resolutely refuses to show its age.
