Dogs could be shot in Cheddar
Dog owners are being warned that their pets could be shot if they are seen worrying sheep at Cheddar reservoir.
The warning comes from reservoir owner Bristol Water after two incidents of sheep-worrying were reported on the last two weekends.
A spokesman said: "Dogs are allowed on to our private land at Cheddar Reservoir but only on condition that they should not go into the water and must be on leads at times when livestock are present.
"One recent incident involved a black Labrador that was allowed to run wild near sheep, despite the owner being warned. Dog owners should be aware that the farmer who owns the sheep would be perfectly within his rights to shoot, without warning, any animal caught worrying livestock."
