The owner of two Alsatian dogs which went on the rampage in Lockleaze and Horfield could be jailed after admitting a charge under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Bristol Magistrates Court heard yesterday that Jason Cox's two dogs, Max and Jake, escaped from the family home in Ruskin Grove on February 9 and attacked people in the street.

Most seriously hurt were Sasha Gordon, who was 18 at the time of the attack, pensioner Terrance Davies, 70, and PC Josh Ings.

Cox was told yesterday that magistrates were considering a jail sentence of up to 12 weeks and his animals could be put down.

The 30-year-old admitted being in charge of dogs that were dangerously out of control in a public place.

The Post reported the incident and people told how they were attacked or had to flee from the dogs.

In a statement read out in court, Miss Gordon said she had regularly seen the two dogs running up and down the road without their owner, but said that they had previously not appeared aggressive.

But on February 9, the dogs "ran straight at" Miss Gordon after she had dropped her little brother off at school.

One bit her right lower leg, which caused bleeding and a puncture wound, while the other dog jumped up at her.

An unknown driver managed to chase the dogs away by mounting his car onto the pavement.

The court heard Cox, a former drug addict who is on benefits, lives with his partner and seven children.

Richard Nile, defending, said: "Certainly he does care about what has happened. He has even sent the victims flowers. He doesn't want the dogs destroyed."

The case was adjourned until May 25 for reports.
