WORK is due to start on an improvement scheme for buses in Kingswood town centre.

The scheme will upgrade Kingswood town centre to the standard of other Greater Bristol Bus Network (GBBN) "showcase" routes.

Covering Regent Street and Cecil Road, the improvements consist of extended bus stop boarders that help people get on and off the bus, and new shelters.

The proposals also include measures to improve traffic flow along Regent Street, which will help to reduce congestion, improve air quality and enable bus services to run more punctually.

The scheme is funded through the Department for Transport's Better Bus fund, which allocated £5 million to the West of England partnership to improve bus services earlier this year.

The works should be completed in November to minimise disruption during the Christmas period. Real-time passenger information screens are also planned to be installed in coming months.
