Everywhere you turn, a machine is working away in the background, telling the time, powering your car or helping you to get clean.

Today you can cut out the coupon and go along to your nearest participating retailer to pick up our latest children's encyclopedia – Disney's The Wonderful World Of Knowledge: How Machines Work – for just £2.99.

Here are some of the fascinating facts which can be found in its pages.

One day, technology might enable people with disabilities to control computers or wheelchairs using only their brain waves.

Machines can be put inside the body to replace damaged eardrums or even help the heart to beat.

The film for a movie that lasts two hours is a staggering four miles long.

The first recording machine captured sound by making a wavy groove in a layer of tinfoil on a revolving cylinder.

We asked six-year-old Daniel Hart, of Stockwood, what he thought of the book.

He said: "I want to be an inventor when I am older. I would like to invent a submarine or a nappy changer for my mum and dad to help them change my little brother's nappies.

"Lots of this book is new to me. I like the page about submarines – I like underwater things because I love swimming."

His mother Maria said "Daniel is always wanting to invent things, he has a large imagination. I think the book is good – really colourful and the Disney characters engage children with it a bit more.

"The different sizes of text are good too. It is even the sort of book I could sit down and show my two-year-old son Matthew."

Next week, you can collect another book in the series, Reptiles and Amphibians.
