A stout defensive display saw Dings complete a double over a Bridgwater side that dominated possession and territory for long periods but lacked any ambition, imagination or flair in attack.

The home side managed to kick just three penalties from their dominant share of possession and Dings took full advantage crossing for tries after 10 minutes and just before full-time.

The visitors opened the scoring on three minutes with a solid penalty from stand-off Tom Lukjaniec, who was making his National League debut.

The opening quarter was all Dings and after going close from a fine break and 50-metre run by Lukjaniec, Dings got their first try from flanker Mitch Quoi on eight minutes.

Powerful wing Sylvan Edwards crashed his way up field before slipping the ball to hooker Dave Wheeler who found full-back Orlando Stott in support to put Quoi over in the left corner for 8-0 to Dings.

The second quarter belonged to Bridgwater with lock Danny Hodge leading the charge after Dings were disrupted with first the loss of big lock Rob Rees with a shoulder injury and then reduced to 14 men when hooker Wheeler was sin binned all on 20 minutes.

Stand-off Stuart Evans landed penalties in the 27th and 34th minute for the home side to reduce the arrears to 8-6.

The second half continued much as the first had finished with Bridgwater dominating possession but totally lacking in ideas and seemingly intent on just sending big men up the middle of the park hoping Dings defence would crack.

They took the lead on 49 minutes with Evans' third penalty which proved to be their last score in the game.

It was Dings with a minimum of possession that showed much more enterprise and always looked capable of more tries.

Breaks by No 8 and skipper Mike Panoho, full-back Stott and stand-off Lukjaniec showed how dangerous Dings could be with the ball.

In the 77th minute, Dings full-back Stott produced a fine run down the left wing to get behind the Bridgwater defence and the ball was recycled for hooker Wheeler to score under the posts. Lukjaniec kicked the conversion to make it 15-9 to Dings.

The home side were left to reflect on a game that saw them control the ball for maybe 70% of the match but it was Dings who always looked to play an expansive game.
