Dings Crusaders 21 Rosslyn Park 21: With a vastly-improved display from recent weeks, Dings were unlucky not to secure the win.

Dings led in the closing minutes, but visiting stand-off Ross Laidlaw produced a fine break from a rare stolen line-out and raced to the corner to level the scores.

With both sides looking well up for the match, the early exchanges were pretty fiercely contested, but it was the visitors who opened the scoring on eight minutes when lock Adam Gates crashed over from close in after several phases on the Dings line. Laidlaw added the conversion.

Undeterred, Dings got into their stride and put together a good controlled passage of play that saw them retain and recycle the ball and pressurise the visitors' line.

Dings took the lead with three penalties early in the second quarter – two from stand-off Tom Lukjaniec and a monster from his own half from impressive young wing George Watkins, which gave the home side a 9-7 lead.

Dings increased the deficit on the half-hour with a well-worked try for full-back Orlando Stott from deep in their own half, after a good drive by the pack the ball was moved along the line.

Stott made the initial break before exchanging passes with wing Watkins and sprinting over wide on the left, before referee Simon Harding ruled that Lukjaniec had spent too long on the conversion, forcing him to rush a drop attempt, which missed.

Dings went close five minutes later when Watkins and Dave Wheeler drove up the middle to the Park line and prop Tim Brockett just failed to hold a difficult pass five metres from the line.

Both Lukjaniec and Watkins then missed penalty attempts, which left the half-time score 14-7 to Dings.

Those penalty misses looked all the more important when Rosslyn Park opened the second half strongly and Laidlaw added two penalties in the first five minutes to reduce the arrears to one point.

However, Dings were back on the scoresheet within five minutes with a try for Watkins.

Lock Josh Brown, who made an impressive debut, won a line-out just outside the visitors' 22 and Gareth Lloyd drove on into midfield. The ball was moved to Lukjaniec, who produced a beautiful inside ball for Watkins to side-step his way over the line. Lukjaniec added the conversion.

A penalty for Laidlaw on the hour mark reduced the gap to 21-16 and set up a fine last quarter where both sides played some very good rugby.

With just minutes left, Dings looked to have secured a win when Lukjaniec kicked a penalty to touch for the home sides lineout on halfway, but the line-out was lost and stand-off Laidlaw produced a break to run diagonally for the corner and level the scores. The conversion attempt was missed.
