Dings Crusaders 33 Ealing 29: Dings waited until their last home game of the season to beat a side in the top three of National Division Three South, but this match could have gone either way in a pulsating final 10 minutes.

Orlando Stott's try on 76 minutes seemed to have secured the points for the Lockleaze-based side as they led 33-22.

But back came the Londoners with former Gloucester wing Ali James touching down in the corner.

Yet, despite trying everything they could in the six minutes of injury-time, Ealing could not break down the committed Dings defence.

The win ensures Dings remain fifth but their chances of finishing fourth have been virtually dashed after the club were deducted two points for not having enough front row forwards in the match with Bridgwater last month.

Home full-back Adam Westall remained the more composed in front of the uprights early on, landing two penalties to one from his opposite number Peter Hodgkinson.

Dings were the first to cross the whitewash on 23 minutes. Hodgkinson had halted Chris Wright-Hider's searing break with a very robust tackle but the wing passed off the deck to send the supporting No 8 Mike Panaho over. Westall converted.

Panaho was celebrating again 11 minutes later after an outstanding individual try.

Having fumbled the ball back into his own 22, the Kiwi ran back at the Ealing players chasing a kick and chipped ahead. Panaho wasn't favourite to reclaim the ball but he showed more conviction than Hodgkinson to collect and then had enough pace to keep James at bay. Westall's conversion put the hosts 20-3 up.

But the Dings defence was breached on the stroke of half-time when Hodgkinson found a gap before selling a dummy to go over. The full-back added the extras.

Ealing reduced the Crusaders' advantage to five points three minutes after the break when wing Kiba Richards touched down after Hodgkinson had opened up the home defence.

A 40-metre break from the outstanding flanker Mitch Quoi lifted the hosts before Westall landed two penalties in four minutes to puts Dings two scores ahead.

Ealing grabbed try number three on 61 minutes when Mark Tucker went through a poor tackle by Panaho to touch down under the posts. Hodgkinson reduced Dings' lead to 26-22.

American referee Ed Gardner then became the centre of attention on 71 minutes.

He sent Dave Wheeler to the sin bin for a professional foul five metres out but then allowed the Dings hooker back on the field after brandishing the yellow card to Ealing captain Andrew Dalgliesh for an earlier stamping incident which had been spotted by the touch judge.

Having been given an unexpected player advantage, Stott took an inside pass from fly-half Tom Lukjaniec to score, Westall converting.

But the action wasn't over as James took a long cut-out pass and crashed through two tacklers to dive over.

Hodgkinson added the extras but, after regaining possession with two minutes left, Dings' forwards kept hold with some neat pick and drives to secure a priceless victory.
