Dignitaries get 'hands-on' for the NSPCC
FORMER England rugby player Gareth Chilcott and Lord Lieutenant of Bristol Mary Prior were on hand to officially open a new NSPCC centre in the city.
The children's charity's Bristol Service Centre offers a range of services to protect the most vulnerable youngsters, including those at risk of physical abuse within their family, babies, children in care, children from ethnic communities and those at risk of neglect. The NSPCC has had a presence in Bristol since it became the location for its first ever branch in 1887. The charity hopes the new services in the city will help develop an understanding of what type of work achieves the best results for children. It will then use what it learns to inform government and other agencies, to help launch the most effective programmes for all children who need it and to improve understanding of the difficult and challenging world of child cruelty.

NSPCC regional head of service, Sharon Copsey said: "Through the services provided from the new centre we can help those Bristol children who are most at risk of abuse but also, by pioneering them, help ensure that they eventually become available to vulnerable children and young people throughout the UK."
