DETECTIVES investigating the death of Darren Plumley in Weston-super- Mare on New Year's Day are trying to piece together his movements during the hours before his death.

The 25-year-old, was found unconscious in Gloucester Street, just a few metres away from the resort's clubs and bars, at 6am on January 1.

He had been out celebrating the New Year with friends in the resort when police say he was attacked by three men.

Darren suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Weston General Hospital for treatment but later died.

Two men have been charged with his murder and are currently in custody, awaiting an appearance at Bristol Crown Court in May.

A third man has been arrested and released on police bail until the middle of February.

It is understood that Darren, who was described as a "gentle giant", had been in bars and clubs around the resort with friends before the attack happened.

Police believe he went out at about tea time on New Year's Eve and have already spoken to a number of people who saw him during the evening.

Detective Inspector Erica Last, who is leading the inquiry, said: "We know that Darren went to a number of bars and clubs in town and we have placed him at several, but we are keen to trace his exact movements during the evening.

"We want to speak to as many people as possible that Darren came into contact with on New Year's Eve and the early hours of New Year's Day.

"We need to make sure that we have thoroughly accounted for his movements during this time as this will help us put together an accurate picture of where he was and what happened.

"There are questions that we need to ask the people who may have seen Darren so we can tie the events of the evening together.

"We are also keen to speak to anyone who may have received a phone call or text from Darren on the evening leading up to his death.

"We have already had lots of people come forward with information and we do not need to speak to those people again.

"However if there is anyone that we haven't spoken to that has information which may be of interest to us, then we would urge them to come forward."

Anyone with information should contact Weston Police Station on 0845 456 7000.
