'Despicable' pair target 89-year-old
AN 89-year-old woman was robbed of her life savings by two criminals who tricked their way into her Clevedon home.
A man knocked on the window of the pensioner's house at around 8.15pm on Tuesday and told her he had just moved into a property in Conygar Close.
He asked the woman to check some switches, claiming that his electricity had gone off.
The victim opened the door to let him into her house and as she did, another man followed him into her house.
The first man held the pensioner back while his accomplice searched the property before making off with her life savings.
Detective Inspector Julie Mackay, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was a despicable crime committed against a vulnerable, elderly lady while she was home alone.
"These offenders targeted her because of her vulnerability to steal her life savings.
"It is possible that these men attempted to enter another address in Clevedon but they failed.
"I would urge anyone who may have been approached by these men to come forward and I would urge all residents to remain vigilant and report the matter to us immediately."
Police are trying to trace two men in connection with the incident.
The first is described as white, around 5ft 7in tall, in his early 20s and of slim build.
The second man is described as white, slightly taller and in his 30s.
DI Mackay said: "Crimes like these will not be tolerated in North Somerset.
"We will work tirelessly to bring these offenders to justice."
Anyone who believes they know who the men are or thinks they saw anyone acting suspiciously in and around the Conygar Close area on the day of the incident should call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

“Let's hope these animals are caught and receive a real punishment for once.”
