So our helter skelter season continued with a fine win against another promotion-chasing side.

As was pointed out on the BBC's late night Football League programme, our 45 points would be enough to still be in with a fighting chance of making the play-offs in other divisions. I still think we need a miracle to make the top six.

However, we did get a miracle on Saturday when Dominic Blizzard scored his first goal for a year. It made me want to shake his hand although he may have done a Wayne Bridge for all the stick I have given him.

The goal set up victory against a Colchester side made up of giants, who unfortunately can argue that their long-ball style has got them in the running for promotion. It seemed that every substitution they made brought another player bigger than the one he replaced.

But I like the new look of our back four and Daniel Jones deserved his man-of-the-match accolade by showing he is the sort of player we need to bring in on a permanent basis.

Byron Anthony was not far behind Jones in performing well at right back, particularly with his overlapping runs.

That brings me quickly back to Blizzard, who does not give us width on the right, it is not his fault, it is not his position. He is not cut out for running at defenders the way Andy Williams can and you will notice that Blizzard got his goal from a central midfield area.

Congratulations must go to Keith Brookman, editor of Rovers' programme, which has now been voted the best in its division five years out of the last six.

Apparently, it just pipped Exeter for this year's accolade which I am delighted about after the contempt the Devon club showed for away fans last Tuesday.

We had been warned the day before that their pitch would be heavy and when I arrived in Exeter at 3pm the rain was torrential There was no way this game was going to be played and it could have been called off hours earlier to save our legion of fans a journey down the M5.
