Delightful double for Brislington boss Paul
Brislington manager Paul Warner had every cause to celebrate after watching two of his teams complete a sparkling double.
Warner's under-14s side won the Somerset County Cup final in style on Saturday, beating Bishops Lydeard 5-0.
Sophie Whelan opened the scoring at the end of the first half before Emily Plummer, Abbie Southway and Georgia Hurcom (2) added second-half strikes to secure the trophy.
Then on Sunday, despite dropping their first points of the season in an epic battle, Brislington Under-13s drew 0-0 with St Nicholas to pick up the point they needed to become league champions.
Second-placed St Nicholas started the better and created several chances in the first half with Rianne Gingell hitting the bar and Rosie Cronin twice going close.
Brislington had a chance to take the lead after 20 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for handball, but Libby Bell pulled off a brilliant save from Zoe Gunter's spot-kick.
Brislington came out more determined in the second half, but were held back by superb defending from Saints' Lillie Jefferies, Abi Minett-Searle, Ellie Shipp and Eve Martin.
To cap a memorable weekend for Warner, his Brislington Under-11s C-team turned the tables on St Nicholas – beating them 2-1 with goals from Paige Gunter and Jessica Werrett.
St Nicholas Under-16s followed up their impressive 3-0 victory over AEK Boco in the cup final with an emphatic 5-0 win over the same opposition in the league.
Megan Bloomer added to her considerable goal haul for the campaign a perfect hat-trick and Amy Ford continued her comeback from injury with another impressive display to earn player-of-the-match.
While Ruby Bagge and Sophie Sweet constantly stretched the overworked Boco defence with their probing, it was left to Cyd Ramsey to open the scoring with a stunning 20-yard drive and Jess Wilson to bury an emphatic header to give Saints the result they deserved.
Bristol Ladies Union Under-14s survived a late scare to secure a 2-1 victory over Longwell Green.
The Blues started at their usual high tempo as striker Jazz Williams fastened on to a ball fed through from midfield to fire them into the lead.
Longwell strung some good passing moves together themselves and, from one of these, starting inside their own half, they grabbed an equaliser.
The speed of the game was relentless throughout the second half, with both teams searching for that elusive winner and it was the Blues who found it through Williams' second with 15 minutes remaining.
Esme Burrows had to get back swiftly and clear the ball away for a corner as Longwell pressed for a second equaliser, but Union held on for the win.
Backwell Athletic Girls Under-14s remain second in the table after two Bethan Wakefield goals secured them a hard-fought 2-1 win over AEK Boco.
Their defence of Jess Byron-Dyer, Emily Rees, Lauren McLoughlin, Katie Hickling and Kim Jarrett were outstanding, while Ellie Campbell, Bex Holloway, Val Statham-Sprod and Beth McLoughlin dominated midfield possession with great support from Ellen Bridges and Abby Threlfall.
Wakefield and Mollie Webb were a constant threat in attack as Backwell edged home.
Maisie Kincaid scored a hat-trick as Portishead Juniors Under-12s moved to the top of the A-League with a hard-fought 4-0 victory over stubborn Bitton.
A late call-off from last week's goal hero Taylor Gainey meant that Juniors had to shuffle their pack and it was midfielder Jennie Mistry who took an unfamiliar place up front.
But it proved business as usual as midfielder Abbie Taylor's first goal of the season, followed by Kincaid's splendid triple, saw them to the summit.
Portishead's strong defensive partnership of Cadie Dunn and Ellie Grey, plus goalkeeper Alice Pritchard, were solid throughout and Pritchard had to be alert to deny Bitton with a smart save following a weak clearance in the defence.
The versatile Erica Marshall again proved her worth to the team by playing in three different positions, while Leanne Gainey fought tigerishly in midfield and Annabelle Colston linked up well with others around her.
Player-of-the-match Emily Parsons led by example in a superb team performance as Keynsham Town Under-12s beat a lethargic Wotton Rovers side 3-0 in a top-of-the-table B-Division clash.
Keynsham took the lead in a tight first half when Danielle Ash broke clear of the Wotton defence and scored with a cool finish.
Excellent performances by Kelsie Gunstone, Mollie Chapple and Charlie Anne Alford helped them take control of the second half and victory was secured with another fine Ash effort and a tremendous solo goal from Alford.
Frampton Rangers A Under-10s produced a good all-round performance to beat AEK Boco B 2-0.
Maddison Buss and Lauren Penny scored the important goals and there could have been more but for a fantastic display by the Boco goalkeeper.
A day earlier, Frampton had pipped Longwell Green A 1-0, the winner coming from the impressive Ellie Todd.
Chloe Bragg looked confident in goal behind defenders Kristie Chard and Rosie Williams, who enjoyed super games along with Penny, Buss, Jess Jefferies and Connie Lanham.
