Wotton Rovers' bid to finish a dramatic season in second in Gloucestershire County Youth League ended in disappointment.

Having beaten much-improved Thornbury Town 4-1 with goals from Tom Woods (2), George Williams and Kieren Austin, with Steve Nash replying for Thornbury, Rovers found themselves on the receiving end of two defeats.

They had needed to win their remaining two games by substantial margins in order to steal second place from Forest Green Rovers.

However, goals from Kieren Austin and George Williams weren't enough to prevent Wotton slipping to a 3-2 defeat against Gala Wilton, for whom Kieran Hempstead, Steven Hutchings and Josh Halford were on target.

Wotton then suffered their heaviest defeat of the season, losing 5-0 at home to Cheltenham Saracens, and finished the season in fourth.

Cadbury Heath claimed third spot to go with their success in the County Under-18 Shield.

Meanwhile, the league's AGM takes place on May 26, when new clubs will be elected.
