Police have confirmed that the discovery of the body of a man in Weston-super-Mare town centre is being treated as suspicious.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was discovered in a property in St Margaret's Terrace on April 20, at about 11.25am.

Police are treating the death of the man as suspicious and have confirmed that a post mortem will be held later today to determine the cause of death.

An area around the property and including part of the grounds of the Winter Gardens - was immediately cordoned off by police and was closed all day.

A further area in Alfred Street was also sealed off by police.

Four police support vans and three forensic vans remained at the scene on Monday evening while investigations continued.

Forensic teams dotted yellow evidence markers along St Margaret's Terrace and teams were also seen taking photographs and video footage.

Officers are currently in the process of identifying and contacting next of kin.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the St Margaret's Terrace area between April 19-20 who may have seen anything, which may help police with their enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Weston-super-Mare CID on 0845 4567000.
