DRG Stapleton boss Bloodworth looks to build on success
DRG Stapleton manager Simon Bloodworth has urged his players not to blow a golden opportunity to give their campaign a major lift tomorrow.
Bloodworth's team recorded their first victory of the season last weekend – a remarkable 7-2 away drubbing of Patchway – and he is desperate for them to build on that success when they entertain basement rivals Hanham Athletic.
Three points will lift Stapleton off bottom spot and above Saturday's opponents. But Bloodworth, who has lost left-back Adam Venton to an ankle ligament injury for several weeks, said: "If we don't capitalise on last weekend's win then it will have meant very little, although the atmosphere after the Patchway game was one of immense relief and delight."
At the other end of the table, Henbury boss Jairzinho Wright wants nothing less than three points from the match at third-placed Ellwood.
"We're fourth, with a game in hand over them," said Wright. "A win will close the gap between us and them to one point and we're capable of doing it because we've already beaten them twice in league and cup this season."
Dave Lippiatt, who recalls skipper Ricky Lippiatt to the Thornbury Town squad, is demanding a "big improvement" from his young team at Bishop's Cleeve after watching them throw away a first-half lead in last Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by B&W Avonside.
"It was frustrating because I'd been so pleased with our recent performances," he said. "We fell apart in the second half and it's an important lesson for them to learn."
Avonside boss Carmelo Micciche is warning his men they could face a backlash from visitors Patchway after the Scott Park outfit's shock defeat by DRG.
"Patchway have had a few setbacks lately but that spells danger in my mind," said Micciche.
AXA, who have slipped to sixth position after only one win in their last eight outings, aim to reverse the trend at home to Tuffley.
