HEADS turned yesterday when naked cyclists rode around Bristol in protest over the UK's car culture.

Cyclists taking part in the 'World Naked Bike Ride' wanted to promote regular car-free Sundays in the city and to highlight proposed traffic-free areas in Bristol.

The dress code for the day was "as bare as you dare" with participants encouraged to wear "as little as they feel confident with".

Some chose to cover themselves in body paint and to decorate their bikes for the two-hour ride. During the ride, naked bikers met other cyclists taking part in The British Heart Foundation charity ride on College Green.

Participants started at The Full Moon, Stokes Croft, and went to Bond Street, Castle Park, Broadmead, Prince's Street, Queen Square, and St Nicholas Market, before returning to the pub.
