Cruise line brings new business to our city
THE news that cruise ships will soon be sailing out of Avonmouth is great news for Bristol. For despite our maritime heritage and the fact that Avonmouth has become a very busy and successful port its passenger traffic has been rare.
There has been the occasional visit by liners such as the one five years ago but it is a long time since any began a voyage from our docks.
In fact we have to go back generations to when Bristol was last a genuine passenger port.
But from February next year all that will change.

That is because the announcement by Cruise and Maritime Voyages is not just for one or two cruises but for an entire season.
And hopefully it will be the first of many to come.
Not only that but all being well their use of Avonmouth will encourage more cruise companies to follow.
The cruise ship business is one of the few that is thriving in spite of the current recession.
And when successful businesses come to town they have a positive effect.
That could result in jobs being created and orders for local firms.
Make no mistake the decision by Cruise and Maritime Voyages is very significant, not just for Avonmouth but for Bristol as a whole.
