HUNDREDS of people turned out to support the first Oldland Common Music Festival and cheer on performers who entertained the crowds.

The Oldest Swinger in Town, Bristol folk singer Fred Wedlock, opened the extravaganza, which featured local bands, singers, choirs and orchestras.

Co-ordinator Jamie Spencer, a professional singer and teacher, said: "We had a great turn-out and the plan now is to hold a festival every year.

"A lot of people jumped at the chance to be part of it and perform in front of an audience."

The eight-hour long festival took place on Jarrett's Fields, near Redfield Edge School.

Performers of all ages took part, including Natalie Perry, 22, of Kingswood, who won this year's Evening Post Fry Club Search for a Star competition.

Also on stage were East Bristol Chorus, Longwell Green Orchestra and Bath Stagecoach, among others.

Festival-goers were able to enjoy a picnic, and a number of food and craft stalls were set up.
