Cream teas were served at a retirement home in Clevedon to raise hundreds of pounds for charity.

The event raised £1,400 for St Peter's Hospice, which cares for people with life-limiting illnesses.

Fundraisers enjoyed a traditional English cream tea with homemade scones at The Hawthorns on the seafront in Clevedon. Entertainment was provided by the North Somerset Accordion Band.

Every year, St Peter's Hospice helps 2,000 people with incurable illnesses and offers support to an estimated 6,000 family members.

The hospice offers its services for free and only receives 25 per cent of its £5.5m annual running costs from the NHS, with the remainder made up by fundraising and voluntary contributions.

The Hawthorns spokeswoman Mandy Parsons said: "We're really happy to have raised such a substantial sum for St Peter's – it's a wonderful place which touches the lives of many people."
