Cousins grabs hat-trick as Brislington stay top
COUSINS Zoe Gunter and Abbie Kirby both hit hat-tricks as Brislington Under-13s remained top of the table with a 9-2 victory over Boco A.
In tough conditions, both teams fought hard and, although Boco replied well with two deserved goals, further Brislington strikes from Molly Moore, Jodie Hall and Shornie Britton ensured there was no way back for their opponents.
Keynsham Town Under-12s overcame a resilient Downend A team to earn a 2-0 win.
Keynsham took a first-half lead with a well-taken Charlieanne Alford penalty before excellent play by Kelsie Gunstone led to Vicki Powell doubling the advantage in the second half.
Thornbury Falcons Under-12s stole the honours with a 4-3 victory over Bristol Central in a superb battle between the third-placed and fourth-placed teams.
Falcons dominated the first period and were unlucky to come off level at 1-1, Steph Bradley netting their only goal with a well-taken finish.
The Central keeper had a great first half, keeping out numerous efforts, while her opposite number Mary Ridge, Falcons' star player, pulled off fine saves of her own, although she could do little about Central's goal.
Falcons took the lead after the break when a neat move between captain Charlotte Dukes and Rebecca Lane ended with the latter finishing well.
Bradley made it 3-1 with another good finish and, after the visitors had struck back quickly, Lane was on target again to give Falcons a two-goal cushion before battling Central hit back with a late third to make the final few minutes a tense affair.
Portishead Juniors A Under-12s continued their fine form with a 6-0 victory over last season's Division B runners-up AEK Boco.
The die was cast straight from the kick-off when Taylor Gainey beat several Boco players to finish from a tight angle.
Soon afterwards, midfielder Abbie Taylor fed striker Annabelle Colston to score a second from long-range.
Boco then went close and it took a fine save from Alice Pritchard to prevent a deflected own goal.
Colston netted her second of the match moments later but the best goal was scored by Jennie Mistry, who was on hand to pass the ball into the net following excellent approach work by Maisie Kincaid.
Boco began the second half the stronger side but Portishead re-established control and went on to score twice more through Gainey's header and Erica Marshall's strike.
Mia Williams fired a hat-trick as Brislington A Under-11s dusted themselves down to seal a 6-5 victory after an incredible second-half recovery from visitors Stoke Lane.
A fantastic attacking display saw hosts Brislington surge into a 5-0 half-time lead with two great strikes each from Williams and Sophie Allen and a typical poacher's goal by Chloe Smith.
However, Stoke Lane hauled their way back into the match with some superb team goals and a couple of gifts from the home defence to level up at 5-5 before Williams notched Brislington's winner to complete her hat-trick.
Bitton Under-11s returned to action with a bang following a three-week break by beating AEK Boco B 11-0.
After two early goals had put them on their way, Bitton led 7-0 at half-time, including a cracking goal from the halfway line from Emma Karon.
Boco battled hard until the final whistle but could do little to stop Courtney Smith celebrating a four-goal haul, Sarah Underhill netting a hat-trick and Shelby Haynes (2), Karon and Aimee Woods scoring the rest.
Jessica Werrett notched six goals as Brislington C kept up their chase at the top of the Under-11s table with a 12-1 win away to Cadbury Heath. Paige Gunter opened their account with two early goals before Werrett took over. Millie Robinson fired a hat-trick and Isabel Warner added to the scoring, Rebecca Storer netting Heath's consolation.
A last-minute winner from Ellie Todd gave Frampton Rangers Under-10s victory in a fiercely competitive and entertaining match against their recently-formed B side.
The A team had most of the possession but couldn't create many clear-cut chances against their battling opponents.
For the A team, midfielders Maddison Buss, Rosie Williams, Todd, Connie Lanham and Lauren Penny played well, as did defenders Paige Botta and Kristie Chard, ensuring a quiet game for keeper Hariye Beydilli.
Bristol Ladies Union Under-14s showed no rustiness from their break from action as they romped to a 13-0 win over Wotton Rovers.
Jasmine Williams scored a hat-trick before half-time, with star player Alex Douglas and Hayley Venus adding to the total as Union led 5-0 at half-time.
Eight more goals followed in the second period, with Williams taking her tally to five for the game with two more, and Esme Burrows, Madeline Mather (2), Leah Tutton, Clarissa Barnard and Becky Harris all weighing in.
Bitton Under-15s edged an entertaining eight-goal encounter as they came away from Cleeve Town Colts 5-3 victors.
Shannon Mapstone put them in front before Esther Hosznyak added Bitton's second.
Cleeve got a goal back straight from the restart but two more goals in the final minutes of the first half from Hosznyak and Samantha Johns saw Bitton go into the break 4-1 up.
To their credit, Colts took advantage of the wind to pull another goal back within 10 minutes of the restart, only for Bitton to restore their three-goal advantage through Mapstone's second of the game.
Cleeve kept pressing and scored a splendid third goal.
