EDITOR'S COMMENT: Council's parking policy is ridiculous
ANOTHER day, another example of Bristol City Council rigidly enforcing parking rules and making themselves look ridiculous. After the debacle with coaches outside the Hippodrome comes the story of council caretaker Stephen Irvine.
Here was a man working for the council, at a council building who was penalised wrongly by someone else working for the same council.
Not only did he get his car impounded, he got little support when he went to his bosses to explain.
Merely asking the parking company to waive the ticket was not enough.

It needed someone with genuine authority to make a stand.
But instead Mr Irvine has been left severely inconvenienced and importantly more than £120 out of pocket.
How by anybody's standards can that be regarded as fair or reasonable?
He is not a well-paid member of their staff and surely no taxpayer would begrudge him being given a little help.
There are plenty of well-paid officers running Bristol City Council. One of them needs to take this matter up, send an apology to Mr Irvine, refund his fine, give him something extra for his inconvenience and then ensure this sort of nonsense does not happen again.

“The reason the bollards are placed around Ashton during City home games is to try to stop the lazy "fans" who park over dropped kerbs and other peoples driveways. Without these restrictions the roads would be blocked by cars left by obese drivers who cannot be bothered to walk more than 100yards to the ground. A major concern is cars parked over pavements, thus blocking access to prams/wheelchairs, these are then forced into the road. People should think "am I causing an obstruction" before getting out of their car.”

“It is only partly the council's fault, they asked the contractor to waive the fine but they refused, as is their right. Shows the problems with outsourcing everything I suppose.”

“And whos dumb idea was it to put council no parking bollards all around Ashton Gate on Tuesday to stop fans parking, probably the prat who decided to paint double yellow lines everywhere in Ashton. Bristol Council are good for nothing.”

Obviously didn't read the article in your own paper: "Bristol City Council has approached the private contractor and asked them to consider waiving the costs of the tow away and release but they were not prepared to do that."”
