Convincing victory for new-look Thornbury
Mid Glos Mini League: Thornbury Falcons Under-10s went into their away match against Golden Valley in the Mid Glos Mini League with a brand-new shape – and came away with a 6-1 victory.
With star man Cameron Waite starting as the lone defender and a midfield four of Luke Murphy, Jake Bevan, Harry Wormwell and Callum Rodriquez supporting solitary striker Reece Chambers, they were soon in charge.
And their efforts were rewarded with an early goal as Wormwell got the faintest of touches with his head to flick the ball into the net.
Chambers and Wormwell added two more goals before Falcons keeper Ben Mawson allowed a high punt to slip through his fingers for Valley's only goal.
Falcons reverted back to their usual set-up after the break, with Josh Roberts pushing through the middle and Waite switching to right midfield, and they were rewarded with three more goals from Rodriquez, Roberts and Waite (penalty), while Bevan twice hit the woodwork.
The central defensive pairing of the outstanding Floyd Curtis and Michael Rogers impressed as Falcons Under-10s C team were beaten 3-0 by Wotton Tigers.
Keeper Tom Higginson performed well to earn the man-of-the-match award, and Andrew Brewer worked hard in midfield for a Falcons side whose manager expressed his delight at their efforts against well-organised opponents.
