“2,700 parking spaces for 6,000 staff?
That's plenty enough... That's almost 1 space per 2 staff. How many cycling spaces?”

“1. The really underpaid and poor in society don't have cars -they have to use firstbus- so stop using them as the "sympathy" card.
2. The shift worker parking problem doesn't seem to be an issue by the BRI.
3. The consultants are paid lots and yet often get parking spaces because they are important.
4. Build more staff parking, more staff drive in, bigger traffic jams, more people complaining in capital letters that "SUMTHING MUST BE DONE!!!!!"
Frenchay Hospital proposed variable pricing for parking spaces -the more you got paid, the more it cost. This stops the car parking slots being for the wealthy staff.”

“some Kenmore residents are fed up with their "leafy suberb" being turned into car park with the verges becoming mud patches. They have asked the authorities to do something about it NOW, before an extra 2000 staff arrive from Fenchay making a total of over 6000 staff at Southmead Hospital. The hospital is only providing 2,700 car parking spots for staff AND visitors and they won`t start building the car park until 2015!
by the looks of the comments many people are more interested in scoring points than tackling the issues that surround the hospital,new private clinic and the expanding Learning/Reseach Centre.”

“why cant a modern hospital in the suburbs be supported by a modern carpark? shift workers in hospitals , who work hard, just do not have the energy left to waste time on public transport or cycles to get home. Also why assume there is a convenient bus service? Look at the price of running a car and cost of fuel. we are talking about low paid workers. So a car for them is out of necessity; it's not just a car for christmas..And look at the weather. residents are paying for unrealistic planning policies and now trying to punish the low paid shift worker..!!”

No skin off my nose.”

“@EricClark1 Tuesday, June 05 2012, 4:36PM and the six people that up-voted his post.
--------------------------------------------------
"How about if some people gave up their cars for :
car sharing;
cycling;
getting the bus;
walking;
buying a scooter or motorbike;
Is that too much to ask?"
-----------------------------------
Who are the "some people"?
Who are the "some people" on a freezing cold, pitch black and icy morning mid January? Who are the "some people" returning from an evening shift late one night when the pubs are turning out?
Who are the "some people" jumping on a moped and heading out into heavy traffic on slippery ice coated roads?
Who are the "some people" walking home from a bus stop along dark deserted streets?
Your precious daughter? Your son? Your mother? Your sister? Somehow I doubt it.
As per usual the "some people" = "someone else".”

“Let's forget the party political squabbling and concentrate on some real issues for a change.
There is, and will be, limited parking at Southmead Hospital even when the 'new' hospital is completed and it is all very well for Mr Wood to say he was fully aware there were not enough parking spaces at the hospital and encourage staff to use public transport and bicycles but that may not be possible in all cases.
If you are prepared to add a possible three hours to your working day, or when I was employed an extra four hours to a ten hour shift, then use public transport. If you live in an area with gentle hills and well lit streets and roads and, most importantly you are able and fit, ride a bicycle.
But don't penalise employees who by neccessity have to use their own private motor vehicles just because the hospital trust, like many other public bodies, failed to realise that car parking for staff is not a luxury. Factor in underground parking much of which could go within the footprint of the proposed buildings.”

“Southmead hospital has always done their bit to help with the parking problem.
I remember my full-time salary was set at a level that made driving a car totally unaffordable.”

Keep on keeping on folks ;-)”
