Conservatives played their part too
I NOTED the recent contribution from a Labour Party candidate concerning the aborted plan to introduce parking charges at the Blaise Castle Estate ("Thank you for backing petitions" The Post February 20) with a feeling of bemusement.
If actions speak louder than words, one would have expected some acknowledgement to have also been given to the part played by Conservatives (both inside and outside of the Cabinet) in persuading the mayor to amend his draft budget proposals. We were acutely conscious of the strength of feeling felt by local people and park-users against this levy.

In fact, I personally raised this issue with the mayor and it was the subject of a specific Conservative budget amendment which was negotiated by the Tory Leader Councillor Peter Abraham, and incorporated by Mayor Ferguson into his revised Revenue Budget.
Moreover, it will be interesting to check just how Labour Members voted on the Budget. I suggest that if they oppose or abstain on this measure, all of these published words of praise surrounding their campaign will ring slightly hollow.
