Concorde model flies to £7,400 bid at auction
A RARE wind tunnel model of a Concorde fetched £7,400 at auction.
Bristol Aeroplane Company's wood and fibreglass model, which is 340cm long and has a wingspan of 160cm, and has a moveable rudder on its tail fin and moveable wing flaps, was only expected to fetch between £3,000 and £5,000.

Extensive wind tunnel tests were carried out to establish the best wing and body shape for the supersonic airliner project. BAC carried out much of the preliminary work which led to the realisation of Concorde.
The roots of defence manufacturer BAE Systems can be traced back to the Bristol Aeroplane Company, the first commercial aircraft builder in the world formed by Sir George White in 1910.

Much of BAE's work has been transferred out of Bristol but the company still employs around 700 staff in and around the city, mainly involved in cutting-edge military research and development.
Sir George White, founder of BAC, is included this year on Bristol Zoo's Walk of Fame.
The model was part of a collection of Concorde items sold on behalf of Duxford Aviation Society by Dominic Winter (Auctioneers) Limited in South Cerney.
