Committees do not slow process
REGARDING your report of a debate at South Gloucestershire Council "Old-style committees voted back in as old cabinet system is scrapped" (The Post, May 24), I did not make any reference to the new committee system slowing down processes.
I totally support proportional committees within the council providing a greater engagement of all councillors, but what I didn't support was the make-up of the two planning committees and the regulatory committee, all of which would have a Conservative majority in contravention of the true proportional representation on the council. Misuse of these majorities could well generate additional work for full council, but that will be determined by the Conservative councillors' decisions.
The new system in should be applauded.

“Well said Bob, not to mention being charged two taxes (south glos and filton precept) and paying for things like a disgraceful public toilet to be cleaned at £17,000 per year, on top of this we pay 3 south glos councillors to represent Filton and I dont think this is needed, as residents have had to do their job on several occasions.”

“The residents of Filton S. Glos, are not concerned about the lack of process. They are however cocerned about Car Parking, Filton Airport, traffic congestion and house building.
Councillors can fiddle about with process systems all they wish. The rest of us want leadership and positive action.”
