Comment: How can it cost £100,000 to come up with name for Museum of Bristol?
There may be a number of questions still requiring answers about the ongoing Museum of Bristol project.
One answer we do have is the name for this venture, taking shape on the city's Harbourside, utilising the site of what was once the Industrial Museum.
When completed, the project will, the council has decided, be called M Shed. Sounds trendy, eh?
It should be. It just cost a cool £100,000.
Yes, incredibly, those who make such decisions at the Council House opted to ask the advice of a company in Manchester when it came to naming the place.
They didn't have to look too far, because M Shed was what the old transit shed, which the new scheme embraces, was called when the City Docks area was still a working port.
Was it beyond their wit and comprehension to come up with a name themselves?
More importantly, who on earth glibly authorises such expenditure which, in these hard-pressed financial times, will be viewed by those at the sharp end, the taxpayers, as wasteful. It was always known as the Museum of Bristol, why not keep it that way?
Even more disturbing are the other disclosures unearthed about this scheme, once billed as costing £10 million and now heading towards three times that amount.
When it finally gets to open its doors, it had better be worth it.

“This is blatently only telling a small part of the story. The £100k is not just for the name for for logos, branding, launcing etc.
Poor reporting from the BEP.”
