Our campaign to make crossing the road at Rodford Way safer is already receiving a great deal of support.

And virtually everyone we have spoken to wants to see a zebra crossing controlled by traffic lights.

It is the safest and simplest way of getting people across this busy road.

Hardly anyone feels confident about using the underpass. It is dark, forbidding and a magnet for troublemakers.

That is why 13-year-old Daisy Whitney did not want to use it.

That is why Daisy decided to cross the road on foot.

Tragically, that led to her being knocked down and killed.

Nothing, of course, can ever bring her back. But if the right steps are taken then it can prevent any other youngsters suffering the same awful fate.

The police say they routinely patrol the area on the lookout for anyone causing trouble.

They say they are not aware of any recent incidents in the underpass. But clearly there are problems.

In police terms they may amount to minor offences, but if bullying, attacking and intimidating youngsters forces them to dice with death in crossing Rodford Way, then it is a very serious issue.

The answer to this problem lies with South Gloucestershire Council.

It can order a crossing to be put in place and it can order the underpass to be bricked up.

The cost will run into thousands of pounds but that should not deter the council.

Their most important consideration must be to provide a safe crossing for people of all ages.

“What the hell is 13 year old oding out on her own..??

The problem with todays world is EVERYBODY wants this and that and the world has become nothing but CONTROLLING...

traffic lights here, crossings there, one way roads, no entry, speed limits and no parking...

Not only does this take away peoples common sense, but it also frustrates everybody which decreases the QUALITY OF LIFE and all sorts of other problems...!!!”
