Keynsham's Paul Atwood clocked up a comfortable 165-15-0 victory in the Avon Angling Sunday Open fished on Campbell and Cary Lakes at Viaduct Fishery, Somerton.

The Carpenters Arms rod fished a straight lead with a 12mm hair-rigged pellet hookbait at 35 metres off peg 116 on the Cary Causeway and brought 30 carp to the scales.

Enterprise Angling's Tom Magnell claimed second place with a similar 126-10-0 taken from Campbell 125 by fishing the same bait as the winner shallow beneath a 16-metre pole.

Match organiser Tony Rixon finished third overall and claimed the top weight to come from Cary Lake. He alternated between a long pole and a pellet waggler and used an 8mm banded pellet to tempt 15 carp totalling 111-15-0 from peg 86.

The top two silverfish catches came from corner pegs Campbell 119 and 123 respectively for Steve Jackson and Stuart Foale. Jackson poled worm and caster into the right-hand lakeside margins for 56-6-0 of tench to almost 3-0-0 while Foale poled the same baits into his left-hand lakeside margins for a similar 41-6-0.

Result – Overall: 1, Paul Atwood (Carpenters Arms 2,000 AC) 165-15-0, peg Campbell 116; 2, Tom Magnell (Enterprise Angling) 126-10-0, Campbell 125; 3, Tony Rixon (Avon Angling Mosella) 111-15-0, peg Cary 86; 4, Leon Barratt (Avon Angling) 103-10-0, Campbell 110; 5, Billy Grover (Avon Angling) 95-14-0, Cary 88; 6, Chris Davies (Team Westerleigh) 94-13-0, Cary 81. Bristol-based firefighter Tony Wittcomb romped home a 93-4-0 winner in the Avalon Fisheries midweek open fished on Match Lake at West Hay.

He fished an 8mm hookbait shallow beneath a pellet waggler at 30 metres off peg 11 and included three double-sized fish in a 15-carp catch.

The runner-up was Bristol's Tony Rixon, who fished the same as the winner at neighbouring peg 12. He caught fish for fish with his Avon Angling team-mate but his carp were smaller and worth only 72-9-0.

The silverfish winner was Gary Bedford, who would have won the match easily had he landed every carp that he hooked.

He fished both pellet waggler and a long pole at peg 24 where, after losing 19 carp, he weighed in just 4-13-0 of skimmers and roach.

Result – Overall: 1, Tony Wittcomb (Avon Angling) 93-4-0, peg 11; 2, Tony Rixon (Avon Angling Mosella) 72-9-0, peg 12; 3, Mike West 69-4-0, peg 21; 4, Tony Page (GOT Baits) 57-12-0, peg 16; 5, Jim Baines 48-2-0, peg 39; 6, Adrian Jeffries 47-8-0, peg 19.Silverfish: Gary Bedford 4-13-0, peg 24.
