Lee Hurst, the sharp-witted, geezerish Cockney comic and 1990s They Think It's All Over regular, is returning to the touring circuit this year after a decade spent running his own club, East London's Backyard. In his comeback show, Lee casts his eye over the many end-of-the-world scare stories currently plaguing us, from global warming to bird flu – and many other predictions of apocalypse that never quite came off.

He'll also be musing over the everyday dangers that face us. Lee has plenty of his own anxieties: his health for one. Lee suffers from a form of arthritis called ankylosing spondylitis. "It affects the sleep mainly, so I exist on a greatly reduced amount of sleep," Lee reveals. "It leaves me short-tempered, so I tend to avoid people when I know I'm irritable. That way I'm the only fool in town."

Lee Hurst: Too Scared to Leave the House Sunday, February 24, Tobacco Factory Theatre, Raleigh Rd, Bristol, 8pm, £15. 0117 902 0344 / www.tobacco factorytheatre.com.
