Olivia Sadler and Hannah Cockram got their track seasons off to winning starts at the first Bristol & West Open meeting.

Both runners were coming off the back of successful cross-country campaigns so will take some time to attune to the different pace on the track, but they coped well to win the Under-17 and Under-13 girls' 800 metre races.

Lily Owsley completed a Bristol & West AC clean sweep in the two-lap discipline by winning the Under-15s 800m.

Throwers Sarah Curtis and Jonathan Clayton made a good start by winning the Under-15s discus events, while Jack Dyer sprinted to victory in the Under-13s 100m.

From North Somerset AC, Jasmin Emery won the Under-11s 600m and clubmate Jake Fisher triumphed in the Under-17 men's long jump.

There was also a hat-trick of wins for Amy Parker in the Under-13 girls' discus, shot and long jump events, while Catherine Clayton achieved a similar feat in the Under-11 girls' discus, shot and high jump.

● Bristol & West AC will be staging another open meeting tomorrow night with registration from 6.45pm. Events included are 150m, 200m, 1200m 1500m, sprint hurdles, javelin, high jump and long jump with 4 x 100m relays to finish.

The entry fee costs £1 and athletes are invited to enter on the night.

● Promising North Somerset AC sprinter Sophie Thomas travelled down the M5 for the Great West Open meeting at the Exeter Arena and ran a PB of 22.1secs to finish third in the Under-11s 150m.

The PB follows hard on her new bests in the 100m (14.4secs) and 200m (30.15secs) set in the Sprints & Hurdles Festival staged at Yate last week.

● Bristol & West AC's Claire Hallissey retained her title with some ease at the Hanham Horror multi-terrain race.

Hallissey finished fourth overall in the field of 296 finishers, almost eight minutes clear of her nearest rival, Emma Oughton, of Town & Country Harriers. Westbury Harriers' Elizabeth Smith came third.

Cheltenham 's Russell Forsbrook finally made the top spot, improving from fourth last year, to claim the title from Bristol & West's Neville Adams, enjoying his best results for some time.

● Edward Knudsen won the opening Yeovil summer 5k road race which attracted a healthy 167 finishers on a warm evening. Wells' highly promising junior Laura Parker won the women's race.
