A DRUNKEN reveller headbutted a bouncer after he denied him entry to a harbourside nightclub.

Thomas Povey, 20, had downed five pints of lager, a whisky and coke, and a bottle of wine before he tried to get into Oceana nightclub on October 15 last year.

After twice being denied entrance because he had drunk too much Povey spat at the doorman before head butting him in the face.

He was restrained by door staff and when arrested, police discovered a small amount of cocaine in his wallet.

At Bristol Magistrates' Court yesterday Povey, of St Bernards Road, Shirehampton pleaded guilty to assaulting doorman Mark Woodbury by beating and possession of cocaine.

May Li, prosecuting, said: "He was shown the CCTV but could not remember the incident.

"He did remember being refused entry and wanting to get in because his friends were in there."

The court heard Povey jumped over a rail into the smoking area in a third bid to get in when he was caught.

John Stokes, defending, said: "This was clearly a serious matter with aggravating features which he regrets."

Povey was given a 12-month community order incorporating 130 hours unpaid work.

He must pay Mr Woodbury £200 compensation and £85 court costs.

“Another example of the courts going soft, this doorman was doing his job and did not deserve to deal with someone like this. every time someone acts like this the courts should raise the bar and show that they will not allow it... Just think what if he had killed the doorman?”

*************** Woop woop - CLEAR Campaign News Warrior Alert - Woop woop **********************

    Here's the tell:

    1) "Law abiding guy" - No he wasn't he was illegally growing a large amount of cannabis and was stealing electricity by bypassing the meter.\

    2) Pop at alcohol

"The article quoted the yield would have been 3.9kg. That seems a lot for personal use. His mitigation was that Cannabis was expensive. I wonder how much cannabis he could have bought for the costs of the highly specialised hydroponic equipment he had purchased.

Just need to wait for the personal insult.

It would be great if Gazza kept the post on topic. This one's about a drunk thug and cocaine. NOT CANNABIS.”

That's two days following I find myself in total agreement with you Gazzabristol.
He should have been given some serious time.

It gets worse when you think a certain politician may go down if found guilty of perverting the course of justice to avoid a penalty for that HORRENDOUS CRIME, SPEEDING!

Though using weed as a pain killer does has very questionable efficacy, and apart from the obvious high that may be justifiable in certain conditions, can be detrimental.”

“Bristols most vile club which every week is run by violant roiders and covered up by the staff which funny enough cannot find any proof on cctv of the sick acts carried out by the door staff. I know for a fact that the police are aware of these crimes and properly run door firms within Bristol are more than aware of the shoddy run act at Oceanna which no doubt does not help there situation as the club goers of Bristol think all door staff are the same . Shut it down now before some innocent youngster gets killed like at another Oceanna site in the country. Tom Povey what a legend.”

“Funnily enough I comment on another story a week or so back where a decent law abiding working guy grew some weed to use as pain relief for a medical condition.

I think I am right in saying he got 18 months in prison for a victimless crime.

I pointed out when I commented on that story that we don't treat all drugs equally especially when their use has consequences for innocent third parties.

Surprise surprise here we have a person abusing alcohol (the morons drug of choice) and cocaine (the morons second drug of choice) and then far worse....violently assaulting an innocent third party.

What does he get? Yup, a slapped wrist.

I dare say the Doorman might wonder why growing some plants warrants 18 months yet getting head butted and spat on whilst doing your job is considered trivial.”

“A violent assault following an escalation in behaviour and class A drug possession and he only gets a *tea and sympathy' non punishment.

    Massive FAIL justice (again)”
