Closed without councillors' visits
JON Rogers, who wants to be Bristol Mayor has changed his from cabinet member for health and social care to deputy council leader.
I hope he puts more time and effort into this role than he did when he and his cabinet members agreed to close the day centres for people with learning difficulties and care homes.
He and the rest of all council members agreed on the closures without, to my knowledge, one of them visiting a day centre to see what wonderful work goes on in them and the dedication of the staff.
He has left behind him untold scenes of misery and heart ache. Staff who have no idea if they will have a job and are asked if they would like to take voluntary redundancy.

Service users who have no idea where they will go with no day centres to go to and be with their friends.
A council which is employing 12 new social workers and someone to oversee them to help sort out the mess which it has incurred at rate payers cost.
Jon Rogers has handed all this mess over to Glenise Morgan who has not the faintest idea what she is talking about as she has come from a different job. Since taking over she has not visited one day centre and those who work in them have no idea who she is.
The council is a shambles full of people who want to be Bristol's Mayor. They are all full of hot air and their own importance and not one capable of doing the job.
Let us all hope and pray someone with some common sense will come forward and save us from disaster.
Mary Thomas

“Additionally. officers inform me that "the information about the social work team is incorrect. There are 8 social workers not 12 and they are involved in other work as well as the reviews."”

“Dear Sir,
I was saddened to read Mrs Thomas' letter (Post, Tuesday, October 9). Dr and Mrs Thomas have written a number of letters to The Post expressing fears for the future care of their daughter.
I have personally met with Dr and Mrs Thomas on a number of occasions to discuss our shared commitment to see that their daughter is supported and cared for by the care services. I have visited every council run day care service, and have spoken with service users, staff, carers, family members and officers.
Indeed, during my time as Executive Member for Care and Health I met with their daughter at least twice, once at Shirelink Day Centre as well as meeting her and her parents at Lockleaze Day Centre.
Everyone who knows their daughter would want her to continue to enjoy the very best services, geared to her needs, and supporting her parents as well. I am confident that the services we are offering and developing will ensure their daughter will continue to receive the best possible help and support.
We have wonderful staff and I am confident we can continue to provide world-class service.
In her letter, Mrs Thomas also criticises the present executive member for care, my colleague, Councillor Glenise Morgan.
For the record, Glenise took over what is a difficult portfolio in May of this year and mastered it quickly, with compassion and understanding.
She has also taken the opportunity to visit our day centres, meet service users, staff, families and friends and is equally committed to ensuring continued top quality services.
Yours sincerely,
Councillor Dr Jon Rogers,
Deputy Leader
Bristol City Council”
