Clifton snatch victory over strugglers
Darren Barry crossed with 10 minutes to go to snatch a 20-17 win for South West One leaders Clifton at home to strugglers Oxford Harlequins.
The league leaders were out of sorts and only woke up in the closing stages – their minds may have been on Saturday's home Intermediate Cup semi-final with Sheffield Tigers.
Quins, who were beaten 41-25 by Clifton in September, led 14-10 at half time and 15-14 midway through the second half.
Clifton's other points came from tries by number 8 John Levis and prop Chris Rowlands. Player-coach John Barnes added a penalty and a conversion.
After beating third-placed Bournemouth 18-13 last weekend, Cleve were thrashed 62-3 by second-placed Bracknell on Saturday. Lee Audis scored their only points with a penalty on 15 minutes.
Weston-super-Mare scored 39 points – including a second-half hat-trick of tries by Chris Crichton – but still finished as the losing side when they were beaten 43-39 at Coney Hill.
The Seasiders were 40-20 behind and Rory Baker's penalty, with 10 minutes to go, clinched the points.
Weston's other points came from tries by Ashley Russell and Dan Fry. James Mackay hit three conversions and two penalties.
Clevedon's revival in South West Two West continued as they claimed a 20-10 victory at Torquay.
They have now won back-to-back matches to climb only three points behind third-from-bottom St Mary's.
They had to come from behind in Devon, Rory Biggins, Tom O'Rourke and James Shopland touching down with Biggins adding a penalty and a conversion.
Mary's were beaten 45-15 by second-placed Newton Abbot despite leading 15-12 at the break.
Ian Broughton and Mike Reed touched down, Chris Ramwell adding a conversion and a penalty, for the Winterbourne-based side but, playing against the wind, sun and slope, they couldn't cope with the play-off chasing Devonians.
Yatton won 15-10 against Walcot after three straight defeats thanks to skipper Nick Garnham and Glyn Jones crossing the whitewash and Tony Hill hitting a penalty and a conversion.
Third-placed Avonmouth kept their hopes of claiming a play-off spot alive with a hard-earned 30-5 victory over Brixham.
Brothers Craig (2) and Grant Britton, Charlie Reynolds and Greg Long touched down with Reynolds slotting a penalty and a conversion to take his tally for the season past 200 points.
