Clifton United overcame an early Ingleside onslaught to win 5-1 in the Saturday Youth League Under-11 Division A Cup.

Ingleside came out firing from the kick-off and forced Clifton keeper Scott Brown to make two great saves.

His side weathered the storm well and, somewhat against the run of play, they went ahead from a well-rehearsed corner.

For the remainder of the first half, Clifton were in the ascendancy and went into the break 2-0 up.

Ingleside started strongly after the interval and Mahad Mohamed latched on to a fine pass from Reece Mathews to make it 2-1.

After that, however, gritty Clifton blocked anything their opponents, especially striker Matthews with his pace and movement, could throw at them.

It was Ingleside's lack of substitutes that eventually cost them. As tired legs started to tell, Clifton capitalised by scoring three more goals through Andrew Christie and Pearce Lydon, who both completed doubles following their first-half efforts, and new-boy Jake Redman.
