Clevedon's draw helps them make up lost ground
CLEVEDON are making up lost ground after Saturday's 10-10 draw with fourth-placed St Ives in South West Two West.
The Somerset side claimed their first league win of the season last weekend against Walcot and would have been celebrating their second victory had they not conceded an injury-time converted try.
They were also left to rue scrum-half Steve Johnson's ankle injury after their replacement kicker Simon Johns missed two conversions and two penalties.
Replacement No 9 Matt Harris and fly-half Tom O'Rourke touched down for Clevedon.
St Mary's Old Boys are now only a point ahead of Clevedon after suffering a 29-0 defeat at Sidmouth.
Second-placed Avonmouth claimed two league points and a Charles Saunders Combination Cup semi-final spot after beating strugglers Yatton 26-10.
Avonmouth fly-half Matt Lawrence kicked three penalties and full-back Tony Hill replied with a penalty of his own. Andy Taylor crossed for the home side, with Lawrence converting.
Avonmouth made sure of the victory with second-half tries from flankers Mark Kane and James Anderson. Lawrence kicked one conversion.
Yatton's Matt Johnson grabbed a consolation try, with Hill adding the extras.
In South West One, Weston-super-Mare lost 44-10 at second placed Bournemouth.
