Clevedon Town manager Nick Tucker has challenged his players for one last, heroic performance to keep the club in the Southern League Premier Division.

Tuesday's thrilling win over Yate Town, when they fought back from 3-0 down with 25 minutes remaining to win 4-3, means they go into tomorrow's final match of the season at home to Oxford City with their fate in their own hands.

"Tuesday's win meant we came out of the bottom four for the first time since I took over as manager, so seeing the league table this morning was very pleasant," said Tucker.

"Psychologically, it is a huge boost to get out of the bottom four going into the final match of the season.

"Now our fate is in our hands. We need just one more point and even if the other teams win we will stay up. But we will be going for a win and will take nothing for granted or do any celebrating until ten-to-five on Saturday."

Oxford certainly won't be easy opponents. They trail six-placed Hemel Hempstead Town by three points and must win to have any chance of making the play-offs.

"With Oxford needing to win, they will also be under enormous pressure like ourselves," added Tucker.

"But I have said that on our day we can beat any side and these players never cease to amaze me. They came back from 2-0 down at Halesowen (to win 5-3) last weekend and then 3-0 against Yate on Tuesday.

"But I have told them we can only get out of jail so many times so, hopefully, Saturday we will be a lot tighter."

Yate Town's defeat on Tuesday confirmed their relegation from the Premier Division and led manager Dave Mogg to launch an attack against some of his players.

"There is a lack of professionalism in the dressing room," said Mogg. "It is not everyone but there is a hard core who have been a major problem all season and no doubt they'll be looking for new clubs now. That is what has cost us at the end of the day."

Yate's final game tomorrow is away to Cambridge City and clearly Mogg, if he stays in the job, will want to make wholesale changes for the future.

Mangotsfield United's fate has long been sealed but the club had some good news this week when their Under-18 team qualified for the final of the British Gas Business Youth Cup after beating AFC Totton 3-1 with two goals from Kyle Tooze, who also set up the third for Liam McCaughty. They face Rothwell Town in the final.

"Tooze played for the first team the week before and he is a talented boy who should be pushing for a regular place next season," said Bater.

Paulton Rovers boss Andrew Jones will be glad to get the final match away to Uxbridge out of the way so the team can concentrate on the Somerset Premier Cup final against Frome Town on Tuesday, May 5.

The season has ended disappointingly for Jones, who had set a target of at least reaching the play-offs of the South & West Division. It wasn't to be, but winning the Somerset Cup for the first time will be some compensation.
