The former manager of the Crab Apple pub in Southern Way, Clevedon, has been fined for breaking health and safety laws after a female employee received an electric shock from a faulty glass washing machine and had a miscarriage later the same day.

James Weir, now of Glasgow, was fined £1,015 by North Somerset magistrates for failing to ensure the safety of pub staff.

North Somerset Council had investigated but no link was made between the electric shock and miscarriage suffered by Sian Salmon on November 2, 2007.
