Clevedon Town boss wields his axe
SOUTHERN LEAGUE: Manager Nick Tucker hasn't ruled out further changes after releasing defender Dale Peckham from the Clevedon Town squad this week.
Tucker stressed he isn't under pressure from the board after a disappointing start to the new season, but admits he has waited long enough for the squad to click and won't be afraid to make some hard decisions to get results.
"It has not been a great start to the season and, while I am under no pressure from the board, my personal pride means I want improvement now," said Tucker.
"In 12 years as a manager, I had never lost four consecutive league games and that hurts. I don't want to make it five at Leamington this weekend.
"I am already talking to two or three other players and that might mean another has to go to balance the books.
"So, the message is quite firm. Players are fighting for their places in this club."
Tucker believes he saw signs of improvement in the FA Cup defeat against Newport County last week, a match which saw Peckham axed and new signing Sean Seavill make a promising debut.
"I had stayed loyal to the squad that saved the club from relegation last season, but now I need to make changes," added Tucker.
"I thanked Dale for what he has done for the club, but it is best for him to move on. I wish him well for the future."
Seavill, who can play up front or as an attacking midfielder, will be in the squad for tomorrow's trip to Leamington, but Jamal Easter will have a fitness test on an ankle injury he suffered in training.
Tucker also revealed that Sam Jones has joined Clevedon United on loan to get some first-team match experience.
