Clevedon Town boss Tucker hails his side after comeback
Halesowen Town 3 Clevedon Town 5: Clevedon Town fought back from two goals down to keep their Southern League Premier Division survival hopes alive.
Town manager Nick Tucker said: "The game was big test of character for the lads and they responded with a magnificent performance.
"The players worked hard against a very good side and everyone involved came out of the game with a lot of credit."
Clevedon were a goal down in the opening minute – James Loney heading in a corner.
Things got worse in the fifth minute, when a 20-yard shot from Daryl Taylor made it 2-0.
But Town pulled a goal back in the 12th minute when skipper Danny Wring set up Pete Sheppard.
It became 2-2 in the 20th minute when Wring crashed home a volley after good play by Matthew Walsh.
Halesowen regained the lead in the 25th minute through Duane Darby, who beat goalkeeper Danny Greaves from close range.
However, Clevedon made it 3-3 in the 35th minute from the penalty spot as Walsh scored after Sheppard had been brought down.
In the second half, Greaves made a couple saves to keep his side level.
The visitors got their noses in front late on when Tom Billing broke clear to shoot home from the edge of the box.
Halesowen goalkeeper Nick Bussey joined the attack in the search for an equaliser from a late corner, but when Clevedon cleared their lines, Kyle Bassett was able to run unchallenged to make it 5-3.
