City are unable to ease fixture congestion
Bristol City players and fans have a weekend to kill after the Robins were dumped out of the FA Cup and were then unable to fill the fourth-round void with a rearranged tie against Doncaster.
Eager to ease a fixture backlog, City tried to rearrange their Championship clash with Rovers, cancelled last Saturday thanks to sub-zero temperatures, for the weekend of January 24.
But following Rovers' 0-0 FA Cup third-round draw at Cheltenham Town, the Keepmoat Stadium could yet host a fourth-round tie that weekend, leaving City's match to be scheduled for Tuesday February 17 (7:45pm), a midweek 370 mile round-trip likely to curtail some of City's travelling support.
Robins' boss Gary Johnson has also explored bringing forward City's trip to Plymouth but Devon police prohibited switching the match from Tuesday January 27.
The club have confirmed in the absence of the match the players will most likely be called in for training - a weekend off or a trip away being unlikely at this stage of the season.
