Bristol City FC has won permission for an entrance to its planned new 30,000-seater stadium at Ashton Vale.

The consent means the club has cleared another giant hurdle towards building the new £92milion stadium on greenbelt land on the edge of the city.

Bristol City Council has already given its backing to the new stadium but the entrance would be over the border in North Somerset.

Today, North Somerset councillors agreed by 10-1 votes to give consent after traffic and parking issues had been addressed.

Afterwards, the club's development manager Guy Price said: "It's absolutely fantastic news.

"The club has worked extremely hard to achieve this and it's another very important piece in the jigsaw.

"There is still a lot of work to be done but it means we are on track to open the new stadium in 2012."

“As a City fan I am in favour of the new stadium.
However, we live in a democracy and people have the right to raise objections.
I hope that people in this camp realise that most reasonable City fans do not share these (Bemi) gloating views.
I think the club has handled the process with a great deal of respect.
    Bring on the new ground!!”
