BRISTOL-Based Red Notes Choir is to perform a 'Get Together' in aid of International Women's Day and Oxfam's Get Together campaign.

The singers will perform an impressive international repertoire in Cabot Circus shopping centre.

The concert will mark 101 years of International Women's Day.

Red Notes Choir campaigns for peace, justice, freedom and internationalism, fighting for the rights of working people, those who are oppressed, and those seeking the right to self-determination. They are supporting Oxfam's Get Together campaign which aims to raise money for the charity's projects that have gender equality at their heart.

Oxfam works to ensure women overcome the discrimination they face, and secure their basic rights.

The charity is encouraging people to hold events all across the UK for the Get Together campaign.

International Women's Day, which is on Thursday, March 8, has been marked in countries around the world since the early 1900s.

Oxfam is trying to help women in developing countries who are often greatly disadvantaged, particularly if they live in poverty.

Oxfam's Get Together campaign is aimed at raising funds for Oxfam's projects which help girls into education, assist expecting mothers to access healthcare easily, help women escape abuse and help them set up in business so they can work and provide for their families.

Women and men are being asked to Get Together in the run up to International Women's Day and hold any event of their choice and raise funds at the same time. For example, a coffee morning that raises £46 will train a midwife in Ghana. A movie night that raises £80 will buy a woman in Liberia a sewing machine.

Joanna Dew, Oxfam's head of events said: "There are 1.3 billion people living in poverty worldwide – more than two-thirds of them are women and girls. With the help of volunteers and the general public, through our Get Together campaign, Oxfam is working to change this."

Red Notes Choir will be performing on the ground floor of Cabot Circus from noon this Saturday.
