Brackley proved far more clinical in front of goal in the Will Hulbert GX Southern League Cup First round against Chippenham Town.

A depleted Chippenham side – without nine players through injury, suspension or illness – gave a spirited performance but too often flattered to deceive as their visitors from .

Kevin Slack was prominent for Chippenham in the opening half finding himself on the end of five chances.

The ex-Bishops Cleeve striker was unlucky to see Tom Willshire spill one effort whilst another was ruled out for a marginal off side.

Brackley took the lead on 17 minutes when Jake Gardiner conceded a needless penalty and Dean Cracknell made no mistake from the spot.

The visitors doubled their lead just before the half hour when a slip by Steve Casey allowed Ben Mackey in to score from 25 yards.

Brackley made the game safe on 58 minutes when Mackey headed home Chris Harper's left wing cross.

Chippenham never gave up and had an effort by Kye Holly ruled out for an infringement while Cortez Belle's volley was superbly saved.

Chippenham scored a deserved consolation goal two minutes from time when the Brackley defence failed to clear a corner and substitute Luke Bryan curled home from 20 yards.
