Chippenham see off Clevedon Town challenge
Chippenham Town 2 Clevedon Town 0. Chippenham maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a hard-earned victory over Clevedon.
The Bluebirds dominated the first half, forcing six corners, but they could not find a way through a resolute Clevedon defence. The closest they came was on 13 minutes when Jonathon Davies's shot flashed just wide.
Clevedon saw a goal ruled out after Chris Snoddy was fouled at a corner, before Gregg Coombes's low shot was fielded by the Chippenham keeper.
Chippenham took the lead on 51 minutes when a strong run by Davies saw his driven cross converted by Shaun Benison. Danny Greaves then blocked an effort from Luke Gullick.
Clevedon almost equalised when a quickly-taken free-kick was played to Matt Walsh and his low drive was well saved by Snoddy.
As Clevedon committed four men to attack, Snoddy again excelled to thwart Pete Sheppard as he raced out of his area to toe poke the ball away from the winger. The loose ball fell to Josh Brigham and Snoddy recovered to superbly touch the shot over.
Clevedon's Tom Billings punched a 75th-minute corner into the net, an action that earned him a booking. At the other end Greaves blocked a Sam Allison effort with his body, while Davies's shot curled wide.
Chippenham made the game safe on 90 minutes when substitute Luke Powell converted a penalty awarded after a foul on Gullick by Lee Molyneaux.
