Children's favourite holds court at centre
SHOPPERS stopping for a bite to eat at the Galleries in Bristol city centre can now do so in a revamped food court.
Children's TV favourite Peppa Pig was on hand to officially open the new food court, which is part of a £3-million revamp of the shopping centre.
The Galleries is changing its layout ahead of the arrival of a new store. The changes mean the food court on the third floor is moving down a level.
After several months of work the new area, which includes Burger King, Fat Jackets, Butlers and Perfect Pizza, opened yesterday.

Families stopping for food were able to have their picture taken with Peppa Pig throughout Friday.
The first part of the renovations at the Galleries, which is celebrating its 21st birthday this year, have been completed ahead of schedule and have taken five months and affect 30,000 square feet of space.
The Galleries recently changed hands and new owners restored the original name of the shopping centre.
Work has now started on the former food court's 15,000 square feet of top floor space which is being altered to accommodate a new tenant, 99p Stores, to open in November.

“@Gove
Yes I think that's probably the best assessment yet. They need to make more of the food court as it's one of the only ones in the centre... Cabot has more restaurants than quick places to eat. If they were to lose any more big names they will be in serious trouble. Though boots is hardly going to go anywhere soon!
The bottom floor however is looking almost shanty like, with pop up clothes shops selling under £5 clothes etc.... It's a real shame!”

“It's an interesting place the Galleries...
In many ways, with the loss of key retailers, It should have already died. However because it still has the main post office, a Boots (with NHS centre), a WH Smiths, an Argos and a Waterstones it's probably not doing that badly for a 21 year old cramped shopping mall. It's also a handy thoroughfare for when walking from the top of union street to inner broadmead.
Where else in the centre can you go to post a parcel, buy stationery, buy books or pick up a prescription? There's life in the old girl yet, she just needs a few higher profile tenants rather than the rather questionable "99p stores"...”

“In a massive vote of confidence, most of the concessions didn't renew their lease. 50% of the spaces available haven't been taken, and only 2 of the exisiting tenants moved. It's a complete hole, they had such a chance to make it nice and failed!
A flagship store which is a 99p store... None of the mainstream shops will renew their tenancies when they are up!”
